Cytopathology

Fine needs aspiration reveals single and clustered benign epithelial cells with a background consisting of dense, magenta stroma, as well as clusters of loose, myxoid stroma admixed with bland spindle cells. The epithelial cells are cuboidal, with a central to eccentrically placed nucleus, without prominent nucleoli. The nuclear contours are smooth, without indentations or grooves. The bright stroma is acellular with rare benign stromal cells in lacunae. There are three dimensional clusters of spindle cells with associated matrix. The edge of the clusters reveals a fibrillary cytoplasm and bland appearing nuclei. The remainder of the background consists only of blood, lacking necrosis or significant inflammation.
