Cytopathology

Touch imprint (DQ stain) smears from EBUS guided needle cores of the lung lesion revealed moderately cellular smears comprising of loosely cohesive clusters and scattered single neoplastic cells. The tumor cells had a high nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio, relatively uniform nuclei and minimal nuclear pleomorphism. As seen on the bronchial washings (Pap stain), the nuclei were spindle and ovoid in shape with fine salt and pepper chromatin. Mitotic figures and necrosis were not apparent. Similar cytomorphological features were found in the cell block preparations from the bronchial washing.
