Cytopathology Laboratory Management Workshop

The Cytopathology Laboratory Management Workshop provides essential skills for trainees, established pathologists, and laboratorians alike. Through improved laboratory management education, the cytopathology community can broaden its overall knowledge of cytology laboratory management, improve and maintain high-quality cytology laboratories operations, and strengthen the field of cytopathology at large.

Target Audience

This educational activity is designed for pathologists, fellows/residents, cytotechnologists, and other members of the cytopathology community.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop core competencies in creating, maintaining, and improving cytology laboratory operations, including specimen collection and preparation, reporting best practices, laboratory efficiency, quality metric tracking, billing and finances, compliance with CAP and CLIA regulations, leveraging LIS and EHRs, digital and telecytology, and performing validations, quality improvement projects and root cause analyses.
  • Understand the impact of mentorship and wellness on laboratory culture and performance, and best practices for managing externally facing relationships (laboratory leadership, clinical departments, clients and providers).
