Fine needle aspiration is frequently the earliest sampling technique used to evaluate lymph node abnormalities for both initial diagnosis and rule out recurrence/transformation settings. The proven advantages of this minimally invasive technique have resulted in its increased utilization for sampling both superficial and deep-seated lymph nodes. As the number of recognized lymphoproliferative diagnostic entities steadily grows, cytopathologists are also increasingly called upon to provide clinically actionable diagnoses from small-volume samples.

Target Audience

This educational activity is designed for pathologists, cytopathologists, cytotechnologists, students and other members of the cytopathology community.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the Sydney System guidelines
  • Approach morphologic diagnosis of lymph node fine needle aspiration samples
