The diagnosis of lymphoproliferative disorders is increasingly more complex. It requires understanding of different types of ancillary tests and integration of their results to achieve an accurate diagnosis. Furthermore, there is an increasingly number of new distinct entities being introduced with therapeutic implications. The presentation will focus on the diagnostic approach to lymphoproliferative disorders in cytology specimens, particularly the ones that present primarily as cytology specimens. The proposed Sydney system for reporting lymphoid lesions will also be discussed.

Target Audience

This educational activity is designed for pathologists, cytopathologists, cytotechnologists, students and other members of the cytopathology community.

Learning Objectives

  • How to work up and diagnose lesions containing many lymphoid cells
  • Understand some of the limitations of Cytology in the diagnosis of lymphoproliferative disorders
  • Recognize some uncommon lymphoid lesions in Cytology preparations
  • Use the proposed Sydney System to report lymphoid lesion
