Molecular Testing of Different Cytologic Preparations in Patients with Advanced Lung Adenocarcinoma: Which Yields the Best Results?

The eJournal is an online pathology journal club that reviews current articles from a peer-reviewed cytopathology Journal.

Participants will be able to review the journal article, commentary and webinar from the contributing author. This is a great self-assessment, teaching and continuing education tool.

Target Audience

This educational activity is designed for pathologists, cytopathologists, cytotechnologists, students and other members of the cytopathology community.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss a study that constitutes the first systematic comparison of molecular results between different cytology preparations in patients with lung adenocarcinoma undergoing testing for EGFR, KRAS, and BRAF
  • To evaluate the materials and methods used to compare cytologic preparations (direct smears, ThinPrep preparations and cell block) to clinical testing results
  • To reflect on the results of the study showing that the cytologic preparations tested were all valid substrates for molecular testing
