Symposia 12 - Resolving Problematic Cases of Serous Fluid Cytopathology by Applying The International System (TIS)

This session will cover a range of cases to cover benign and malignant serous fluid cytology specimens interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and appropriate ancillary investigations. These will be presented by experts and authors of the terminology system. Practical advice on diagnostic criteria of malignancy and reporting of mesothelial proliferations and peritoneal washings will be offered. Some unusual presentations and rare tumors will also be presented.

Target Audience

This educational activity is designed for pathologists, cytopathologists, cytotechnologists, students and other members of the cytopathology community.

Learning Objectives

  • To enable attendees to understand the principles of reporting serous fluid cytology samples
  • to develop a diagnostic approach to challenging cases using ancillary testing when necessary
  • To improve report writing of cases requiring clinicopathological correlation especially mesothelial proliferations and peritoneal washings
